The Science of the Dark Maroon Stain

Every bride dreams of a deep, rich mehendi stain. While the quality of the cone is paramount, your after-care routine determines the final depth of the color.

1. Preparation is Key

Before application, ensure your skin is free of lotions or oils. Natural oils act as a barrier, preventing the lawsone dye in the henna from penetrating the skin layers.

2. The 'Lemon-Sugar' Seal

Once your mehendi starts drying, apply a mixture of lemon juice and sugar. The sugar keeps the henna sticky and in contact with the skin, while the acidity of the lemon helps release the dye.

3. Heat Therapy

Henna loves heat. Many Mumbai artists recommend "fomentation" with cloves (laung). Heat some cloves on a pan and let the smoke reach your dried mehendi to darken the stain significantly.
